Philip Dean Strandvold 81, of Muscle Shoals, died Dec. 31, 2013., after a long battle with Parkinson and a brief battle with pneumonia. He was born in Askov, Minnesota on October 20, 1932.
Visitation will be Friday Jan. 3, from 12-2 pm at Colbert Memorial Chapel, funeral services to
begin at 2 p.m. in the chapel, burial to follow at Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Oficiating is Brother Billy Cornelius, Brother Clarence Cochran and Brother Ralton McCarley.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara; nephew, Keith; and his little dog Cokie.
Survivors include son, David W. Berryman of Muscle Shoals; brother, Ken Strandvold and wife Kay of Milbanks, S.D.; Niece, Karla and husband Gary Wellnitz of Milbanks, S.D; grand-niece and two grand-nephews of Milbanks, S.D.; and many wonderful friends. He was loved by all.
He was married to Barbara Redden Berryman of Muscle Shoals for 29 years. She preceded him in death in 2005.
Mr. Strandvold was a member of th Church of God (7th day) of Haleyville, a graduate of Mulbanks High School, Class of 1951. He served in the United States Navy, Aviation Ordnanceman third class, VF-44 and VF-74 aboard aircraft carrier, USS Coral Sea, USS Bennington, USS Ticonderoga and USS Tarawa.
He was a printer, pressman and linetype operator for 57 year. Retired from PSI after 28 years of service. He worked at various weekly newspapers and job shops in South Dakota, Oregan, Washington and Alabama.
