Phil Wayne Hendrix, age 76, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 at his residence in Decatur, Alabama.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donald Conn officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the chapel. Mr. Hendrix will be laid to rest at Decatur City Cemetery in Decatur, AL following the service.
Mr. Hendrix was born in Decatur, Alabama on April 23, 1948 to Louis Roy and Mary Gordon Curry Hendrix. As a graduate of the University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Phil worked for Champion Paper Company for over 30 years. He also owned several businesses in the Precision Maintenance Industry for many years. He was an avid Alabama Football fan. Roll Tide! He found joy in hunting and fishing, along with traveling to Alaska and other places out west. He also enjoyed race cars and antique cars. Phil lived life to the fullest…his two favorite quotes were, “Do it once. Do it right.” and “There are 1,440 minutes in a day and we are available every single one of them.”
Phil’s greatest source of pride was his family; he loved his family and friends. He shared 56 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Wilda Whisenant Hendrix. Together, they built a home shared with love, laughter and cherished memories.
Mr. Hendrix was survived by his wife; three daughters, Milla (Mark) Wetzbarger, Kam (Eugene) Acupan, and Jana (Chris) Deason; three grandchildren, Lauren Grace Acupan, Philip Deason, and Matthew Hendrix; one brother, Larry (Deborah) Hendrix.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
