Peggy Sue Raney Goodwin of Empire, Alabama passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 3, 2022 at 88 years of age. Peggy lived a long, happy life in which she accepted and loved everyone unconditionally, especially children and babies. She was a talented and creative woman who loved to sing, garden, cook, sew, knit, crochet, and quilt. She also enjoyed boating and motorcycling. She was generous, sweet, and kind, and she loved to laugh. Peggy was a member of Dora First Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hulet Jasper Raney and Vaudie B. Barnett Raney, brothers W. C. Raney and Gerald “Bud” Raney, sisters Doris Jean Holmes and Ellen Wynell Finn, husband James Goodwin, and former husband Joe C. “Buddy” Hatley. Peggy is survived by her brother Terry Wayne Raney, daughters Sherry Hatley Harris (Marshall Harris), Pamela Jo Hatley (J. Steele Olmstead), son James Edward Hatley, grandchildren Jeremy Ballenger (Stephanie Ballenger), Christopher Hatley, Ripley Adiel Olmstead-Hatley, Dakota Patterson, Kaylee Vallejo, Keith Vallejo, and Benjamin Vallejo, great-grandchildren Nicole Ballenger and Joshua Ballenger, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, April 7, 2022. Visitation will be from 1-2pm. Funeral service will begin at 2pm with burial following in New Horizon Memorial Gardens. Rev. Ken Mostella officiating.
