Peggy Ruth O’Neal Miles, age 82, of Murfreesboro, TN passed away peacefully Friday, August 26, 2022 at her home with her loving family by her side.
Peggy’s sweet southern drawl was borne from a childhood spent on her family farm in Montevallo, Alabama. She was born to the late James and Edna Quinn O’Neal, and as the only girl, she was the apple of her family’s eye. Her two older brothers, the late Robert and Jimmy O’Neal, doted on her and let her ride along in the middle seat of the truck wherever they went. Peggy O’Neal became Peggy Miles when she married the love of her life Thomas Theodore Miles. The two soul mates spent 53 years together and raised 4 beautiful girls; Sharron Crockett Hofer, Lisa Crockett, Kari Miles, and Meghan Miles. Full of wisdom and grace, Peggy led her family and instilled lessons of discipline, optimism, perseverance, and unyielding faith in the Lord.
Peggy Miles was an artist in both craft and spirit. She was known to have a creative mind that saw the beauty in all things. She spent many of her years painting in the studio Tom built for her while listening to gospel and bluegrass music. Peggy created portraits of everything from people, to landscapes, to penguins and consistently challenged herself to paint new and difficult subjects. In her later years, jewelry became her artistic outlet. She crafted gorgeous pieces using mixed metals and polished rocks and gems.
Mrs. Miles is survived by her daughters, Sharron Crockett Hofer and her husband Dave, Meghan Elaine Miles, and Kari Evelyn Miles; grandchildren, Allison Swift and her husband Michael, Emily Bell and her husband Michael, and Caitlin Nowell and her husband Terry; great-grandchildren, Abby, Logan, Henry, Theo, Millie Ruth, Thompson, and Margot; and faithful canine companion, Hoot. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Miles; brothers, Jimmy O’Neal and Robert O’Neal; and daughter, Lisa Crockett.
Visitation with the family will be Friday, September 23, 2022, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life Service for both Peggy and Tom will be Friday, September 23, 2022 at 3:00pm. Burial for Mrs Miles will follow at 4pm at Evergreen Cemetery.
