Peggy Jean (Vinson) Wampler

Memorial service for Peggy Jean (Vinson) Wampler, age 83, of Russellville (formerly of Portage, IN) will be 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Dewey Jones officiating.

Ms. Wampler passed peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Arabella Health and Wellness of Russellville.  She was born February 20, 1941, in Alabama to Archie Bluett Vinson and Lillian Burcham Vinson.  She was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Wampler of Ohio; parents; two brothers, Jerry Vinson and Danny Vinson; and sister, Barbara Lewis.

Peggy was a resident of Portage for more than 60 years where she attended Hobart Assembly Church.  She was employed by Midwest Steel as a Business Analyst Planner and Administrative Unit for 34 years.  Peggy was an excellent seamstress, from making wedding gowns to mending items for family and friends.  Education was important to Peggy.  She attended college part time at night for 20 years, graduating from Calumet College in 2000 with her Bachelor of Business degree.  Peggy enjoyed activities such as skiing.  She was a Ricky Nelson concert attendee fan and an avid Cubs Baseball supporter along with her sisters, Judy Elliot and Pat Bonner, both of Indiana.  Most of all, Peggy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caring friend.

She is survived by her son, Lathey Wampler, Jr. of California; two daughters, Paula Fox of Indiana, and Sandra McCarley of Alabama; three sisters, Judy Elliott, Pat Bonner, and Becky Vinson; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Wampler, Jennifer Konnigan, Patty Wampler, Alicia Wampler, Jacob Wampler, Courtney McCarley Martin, Tonya Pino, and Danielle Wampler; and three great-grandchildren, Haley Buchanon, Autumn Wampler, and Juda Konnigan.
