Peggy Jean Doss, a lifelong resident of Good Hope, was summoned to that

place prepared by her Lord not made by hand on August 23, 2024. Family and friends

were with her. Miss Doss devoted forty-two years in secondary education as a teacher

and later as an administrator. She taught for one year in the Morgan County School

System in Falkville, Alabama, then moved into the Cullman County School System.

She taught two decades, primarily in history and related social science subjects, in the

Fairview School. Miss Doss then transferred to the central office of the Cullman

County School System as an administrator. Some of the programs that were added

included Adult Education and Drug Education in the school and community. One of

the major programs for which she served was as a Director for the County State

Committee of Alabama Education AEA evaluation of school and teaching. Early in

her teaching career, Miss Doss became an active member and leader in the County

AEA and in the State AEA.

Her life was dedicated to her students and fellow faculty. She worked on

legislation for improvements in curriculum teaching methods, always advocating for

innovations to make learning more exciting and rewarding to the students, assisting

teachers with their students, and for adequate teacher compensation. As long as she

was able, she did not relinquish her efforts and pursuits.

Miss Doss graduated from Good Hope Junior High School and Cullman High

School. Within four months she matriculated at Florence State, “NKA the University

of North Alabama.” After beginning teaching, she earned a double Masters degree at

the University of Alabama in Birmingham and did further post-graduate studies. Upon

her retirement, she continued her interests in education while she advocated for

improvements in the county and state where she had taught. She took an active part in

the Democratic Party and was an active member of Cullman County Democrats.
