Peggy Hinds Aiken, 84 of Carbon Hill, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2017 in Melbourne, Florida. She was born in Carbon Hill, Alabama on December 20, 1932 to Jeanette and James Hinds and was married to Jim Aiken for over 50 years. Peggy worked several different jobs but focused mainly on her love for God, family, relationships and growing four young boys into loving, well-educated and respected men.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Carbon Hill, with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will be at Union Chapel Cemetery.

Left to honor and remember her love are brother Larry Hinds, sons Don Aiken, Ken Aiken, George Aiken and Joe Aiken, and grandsons Alex Aiken, Christopher Aiken and Timothy Aiken.

In today’s world, it’s common place to hear how families are in disarray due to divorce, the lack of trust, limited communication and the absence of accountability. Jim and Peggy gave what seemed to be an infinite amount love, patience, discipline, education, stability, wit, creativity, advice and humility to their family and those around them. She became a master at raising her boys by balancing gentle manipulation with tough love and encouragement.

Peggy was not perfect, but it was the lack of perfection that gave her humility and insight. She was an avid reader and seeker of knowledge with a wide variety of interests and had the exceptional ability to share her insights with others.

In her last years and days, even when her mind and body were waning, she showed respect and gratitude to those caring for her. If everyone she touched in her lifetime knew of her passing, it would be interesting to see just how many people would attend the funeral.

In short Peggy was a loyal, loving wife and great mother.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to your local library or diabetes foundation.
