Pauline Weigand Herron Stumpe, 82, passed away on January 13, 2016 at home peacefully after a brief struggle with liver cancer. Polly, as her family and friends called her, was born July 10, 1933 in Millersburg, Ohio. She and her first husband, Dr. Calvin O. Herron, Chiropractor, moved to Florence in 1962. Polly was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandmother. When Calvin suddenly passed away Polly unselfishly raised their six children on her own. After all six children were in school she then worked for Holladay-Smith/Smith Animal Hospital as business manager for 22 years. Polly was also very active in the Catholic church most of her life. She was always willing to give herself whole heartedly to anyone and everyone. She had a special love for her neighbors. A member of St. Joseph Parish and associate member of St. Michael’s Parish, St. Florian, she was a daily communicate, involved with the Rosary Society, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel prayer group, Alter Society, St. Vincent de Paul, and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary #3969. She was a member of the choir, a cantor, and a lector. Polly was a very passionate, strong advocate for chiropractic. It was a way of life for her, even to her death. In 1986 she married Joe Stumpe. Later in life Polly also visited, assisted, and looked after many people in the nursing homes for many years. She was active in the Tea Party, Patriots of North Alabama, and cared a great deal for America and the return to the Constitution.
A Rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, January 18, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Roy Runkle and the Rev. Jacob DiMaio Amos, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Stumpe was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Louella Weigand; first husband, Dr. Calvin O. Herron; second husband, Joseph Stumpe; brother, James Weigand; daughter, Philomena Herron; granddaughter, Chelsie Wear, and step-son, Edward Stumpe.
Surviving are Calvin and Polly’s six children, Ava Joly (Leon), James Herron (Marisa), David Herron (Jerolyn), Catherine Johnson, Rebecca Mullis, Christina Wear (Matthew); step-children, Mary Jo Pitts (Donnie), Paul Stumpe (Cindy), Phil Stumpe (Pam); twenty-four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. Joseph Catholic School, 115 Plum Street, St. Vincent de Paul at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1111 East College St., or Shoals Sav-A-Life, 2201 Cloyd Blvd. all of Florence, AL 35630.
