Paul Douglas Bray, born on May 21, 1945, in Zanesville, Ohio, passed away on December 3, 2023, in Surprise, Arizona, at the age of 78. Paul’s life was marked by a deep love for his family and his country, a passion that led him to a remarkable journey of service.

At the young age of 14, Paul’s commitment to service began when he achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Eager to contribute further, he joined the Navy at 17, kickstarting a dedicated military career. His commitment to duty saw him re-enlist in the Army, where he rose to the distinguished rank of Chief Warrant Officer during his over 20-year military service.

Even after retiring from active duty, Paul’s dedication to serving his country persisted. He transitioned to civilian life, working for McDonald Douglas-Boeing on projects related to the AH-64 Apache, the most advanced attack helicopter in the US Army. His contributions played a pivotal role in enabling many actions during the Gulf War, showcasing his unwavering commitment to the nation.

For 22 years, Paul called Alabama home, finding fulfillment in his work at Redstone Arsenal Army Base in Madison, AL, where he continued to contribute well into his 70s. His legacy lives on through his achievements and the impact he made on those around him.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Barbara Bray; his sons, Stephen (Lynn) Bray and Michael (Alison) Blackert; and his cherished grandchildren, Garrett and Gabriel Bray, and Remi and Ryder Russell. He is also remembered by his sister, LeAnne (Phillip) Marie Bader-Mock, his brother, Leo F Bader of Zanesville, Ohio, and his loyal French Bulldog, Buster Bray.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Paul J Bray, and mother, Betty E Bray-Bader. In honoring his service and dedication, full military honors will be accorded, and he will be laid to rest at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery. Paul’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, grateful for his profound impact on both his family and his beloved nation.

Services will be held at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL. Visitation will be on Monday, December 11th, from 5-7pm with the Funeral Service proceeding the following day, Tuesday, December 12th, at 11:00am. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
