Paul Christopher Cahoon of Monteagle, Tennessee died December 18, 2023. He was 83.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Suzanne Ramseur Cahoon; daughters Cathie McClure and Allie Cahoon; brothers Sumner Cahoon and Joe (Jan) Cahoon; sister-in-law Mavis Cahoon; four grandsons, six great-grandchildren, and seven nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew Adam Cahoon, his brother Gordon Cahoon, and his sister-in-law Jan Cahoon.

Paul Cahoon was born in Stamford, Connecticut on June 22, 1940, and spent his childhood in Connecticut and Florida. He was educated in Georgia, graduating from Oxford College and later Emory University in 1962. Paul worked in community mental health and served as an insurance adjuster before developing a carpentry business in Atlanta which he continued for 20 years.

In 2003, Paul, Suzanne, and Allie moved from Atlanta to Monteagle, where Paul worked as an independent residential carpenter for 15 years. He completed Education for Ministry (EfM), a theological education extension program administered by the School of Theology, the University of the South, in 2009.

During his life, Paul volunteered countless hours sharing his creative, problem-solving approach to woodworking, including projects with students at both Sewanee Elementary School and St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School.

A memorial service will be held at the Parish of St. Mark and St. Paul in Sewanee, Tennessee, on January 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Central time with a reception to follow at Kennerly Hall.
