Patricia Elledge Guthrie passed away peacefully on January 24th.

 

Pat was born in rural Madison County Alabama to Clara Bridges Elledge and William Elledge. She grew up on a family farm in the Hazel Green area with one sister, Shirley Elledge Allen, and brothers, James Elledge and Rex Elledge. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

 

Pat grew up in a close-knit family and graduated from Hazel Green High School. She studied Art and worked at Redstone Arsenal before marrying the late Thomas Holmes Guthrie Sr. of Huntsville. The couple had two children, Patricia Guthrie Fraley of Mountain Brook, Alabama and Thomas Holmes Guthrie Jr of Athens, Alabama. Pat was fiercely loyal to her children and extended family. She believed strongly in education, literature, and art. She was a fabulous homemaker, cook, and gardener. Pat was a perfectionist in every task she undertook and believed in hard work. In her later days her four grandchildren were the joy of her life.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Guthrie Fraley and son-in-law, John Fraley, granddaughter, Katie Fraley Warren, (Thomas); great-grandson Max; granddaughter, Jessica Abston, (Wills); son, Thomas Holmes Guthrie Jr. and daughter-in-law, Mary Priest Guthrie; granddaughter, Jordann Marie Pester and grandson, Thomas Holmes Guthrie III; one nephew, nine nieces, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29th at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 2:30 at Maple Hill Cemetery with Sam McMunn officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Huntsville Museum of Art.
