Mr. Oscar Polk, Sr. was born to Lucinda and Jack Polk on December 27, 1945. Mr. Oscar went home to be with the Lord, June 03, 2022.
He attended Rosenwald School until he enlisted in The United States Army on April 24, 1967. While he was there, he received several commendations: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, Good Conduct Medal, 3 Overseas Bars, and an Expert Badge Rifle M-16.
He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mays Hill Baptist Church for a time, eventually coming to Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, under Pastor Joseph Woodson, where he was a Faithful Sunday School Teacher Chairman over the Deacon Board, grounds keeper and janitor. Mr. Polk was employed with various jobs, moved to Pinson, TN, and became the school custodian over several schools until his heath declined.
Mr. Polk was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack Polk and Lucinda Woods White, sister Linda K. White, and brother, J.W. White, Jr., stepfather J.W. White, and stepson Bobby Merriweather.
Mr. Oscar leaves to cherish his lovely wife, Dixie Ann Polk. To this union one daughter was born: Sharon (Lawrence) Davis; three sons: Oscar Polk, Jr., Derrick (Angela) Polk, and Elvis Polk, and one daughter who lives in Nashville, TN. Stepchildren: Jerrica (George) Carroll, Ernell (Pam) Smith, Nettie (Melvin) Comer, Napoleon (Christine) Merriweather, Robert (Sherry) Merriweather, Lyda (David) Robinson, Sandra Blaylock, Nathaniel Merriweather, Kimball (Monica) Merriweather, and Ernest (Yolnie) Merriweather. Four brothers: Willie L. Polk, Rayphil (Marlene) Murphy, James Woods, and Rocky (Diane) White. One sister, Margie Cole. One sister-in-law, Elder Wanda Taylor. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Kayla, Morgan, Nyomi, Derrika, J’Kyleigh, Chadwick, Zalen, Mylashia, Odaurius, Jasmine, Jeffery, Violet, Sarai, Domonique, A’Miracle, A’Praise, Marco, Zane, Nelson, Charlotte Ann, Myesha, Kendra, Dwight, Brian, Aundre, Britiany, Michelle, Simone, and Asia. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
