Bro. Orville McMahan, 94, of Hornsby, departed this life Monday, May 9, 2022, at AHC Healthcare in Selmer.
The widower of Bonnie Faye Tigner McMahan, who passed away on November 1, 2012, after almost 63 years of marriage, he was retired as a minister of the gospel, having preached at various churches in Dyer County, McNairy County and Hardeman County. He also retired as a school teacher, working at schools in Middleton, Hornsby and Bolivar Middle School. He was born August 31, 1927, in Hardeman County, son of the late John T. McMahan and Loudella Moore McMahan and lived all of his life here except for short time in Dyer County. He enjoyed gardening, making quilts, cooking and was eager to help others, especially with spiritual advice. His greatest fulfillment came from being around his family and his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. Bro. McMahan was a member of Hatchie Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Dennis & Joan McMahan of Hornsby; four grandchildren, Julie Walton (Chuck), Lisa Pulse (Josh), Brandon McMahan (Nichole) and Phillip McMahan; and 7 great grandchildren, Julianna, Clyne, Lily Catherine, Harper Claire, Brier Ford, Sophie and Hunter. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Anthony McMahan; 7 brothers, Andrew, Phynis, J.T., J.C., Walter, Aubrey and William Payton McMahan; and two sisters, Bessie Hodge and Daisy Kennedy. Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to Hatchie Cemetery Association or Hatchie Baptist Church.
