Orval H. “Papa Hank” Brewer Jr, age 73 of Estill Springs, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 12, 1950, to the late Orval H. and Laura Morris (Finchum) Brewer Sr. He was the owner and operator of Brewer’s Tree Service and was a professional tree climber for over fifty years. Orval was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and was a loving, caring man that always thought of others. He enjoyed listening to blue grass music, playing guitar, riding horses, and writing poems, as well as visiting old cemeteries and watching old westerns. Orval also enjoyed telling stories, and especially enjoyed sharing them with his grandsons, Jase and Zae. He enjoyed visiting the Great Smokey Mountains and Scott’s Gulf in White County, Tennessee. With Scott’s Gulf, Orval shared a sacred bond as it was named after his third great-grandfather, Micager Scott, who was a Cherokee Indian that settled there in 1795. This is where his Indian Heritage came from. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Brewer; son, Wesley (Angel) Brewer, and siblings, Wayne Brewer, Joe Brewer, Jewell Wilkerson, Joyce Tidwell, and Francis Sullenger. Orval is survived by his loving children, Shannon (Rodney) Matthews of Estill Springs, and Wayne Pendleton of Winchester; siblings, Betty Pickett of Decherd, Louise Watson of Decherd, and Doug (LaRue) Brewer of Scottsboro, Alabama; grandchildren, Jessica Matthews, Austin Matthews, Jase Matthews, Jerrica Sells, Jacob Brewer, Jayla Brewer, Zae Taylor, and Lakia Sells; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, January 26, 2024, in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev. Todd Coutta officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 First Ave NW, Winchester, TN 37398, (931)-967-2222
