Miss Meinhardt passed on Monday, March 17, 2014, at the age of 101. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 21, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Reverend Jeff Parker officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Miss Meinhardt was born on September 28, 1912, in Georgia, the daughter of Charles E. and Lulu Hines Meinhardt. She is survived by her sister, Josephine McLeroy (Robert); two nephews, John Robinson (Pamella) and Mike Robinson; two nieces, Regina Meinhardt Smith (John) and Jenny Lu McLeroy; four great-nieces and nephews and three great-great-nieces and nephews.

Orris’s career spanned four decades with AT&T, beginning as a switchboard operator. She was also Decatur’s first Information Operator and at that time, knew everyone’s telephone number in Decatur by heart.

Throughout her life, Orris loved traveling with her sisters and friends to destinations across the United States in her recreational vehicle. She especially enjoyed camping in the Great Smoky Mountains – her most recent trip being just two years before her death. A die-hard Atlanta Braves fan, she celebrated her 101st birthday at Turner Field watching the game with Michael Robinson, one of her great-nephews and his wife, Becca.

Miss Meinhardt was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
