oprahOrpha M. Hatfield, 93, passed away quietly and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at home in Northern Virginia surrounded by her family.  Born October 31, 1922 in Ardmore, Alabama, she worked at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama during WWII, prior to marrying the love of her life, Thomas E. She was a devoted mother and loving wife with a kind heart.  An animal lover throughout her life, her cats had a special place in her heart. She often remarked on how much she enjoyed singing with the Union Chapel Methodist Church choir prior to her relocation to Virginia to live with her daughter.

Dr. Edward Minor and family, Mrs. Mary Minor and family, her two daughters Emily (Robert) Anderson and Eloise (Steven Crutchfield) Hatfield, and her granddaughter, Dr. Cassandra Anderson who remembers her as “the most non-judgmental person she ever knew.”

Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016, and Sunday, January 17 from 12 noon to 12:45 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama.  The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday followed by a brief graveside prayer service at Maple Hill Cemetery
