Dr. Orman C. Campbell, of HendersonDr. Orman Clarence Campbell, age 96 passed away Monday evening, August 1, 2022 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt.

He was born in Birmingham, AL on August 23, 1925. He grew up in Memphis and graduated from East High School in 1943. He then entered the US Navy during WWII and served 3 years as a 3rd Class Petty Officer on the USS General Harry Taylor. After his service in the Navy he attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. He graduated in March of 1949 with a Doctor of Optometry.

He married Maerene Gary of Milledgeville, TN in 1947 and his first practice was in Bristol, TN and later in Dresden before moving to Henderson in 1953 to open Orman Campbell, O.D. Office of Optometrists.

He served as a Chester County Commissioner and was very instrumental in getting East and West Chester Elementary Schools built. He served 69 years in the Chester County Lions Club. He also served as chairman of Governor Winfield Dunn’s Committee to Employ the Handicapped.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church serving as chairman of the Trustees and Head Usher for thirty years.

He was named Outstanding Citizen of the year by the Henderson – Chester County Chamber of Commerce in 2018.

He is survived by his son, Gary Campbell (Edith) of Stantonville, TN; daughter, Cathy Holland (Steve) of Nashville, TN; grandson, Justin Campbell (Jennifer) and three great grandchildren, Jaycee Campbell, Jesson Campbell, and Jaina Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; a twin brother, Norman Campbell; and sister, Edwina Campbell.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Bro. Joey Edwards and Bro. Keith Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Henderson City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday and 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Thursday.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials or honorariums be made in his name to the Chester County Lions Club Vision Program to help with eye care exams and eye wear for the underprivileged.
