Opal Mae Watson, age 80, passed away at her residence in the Hillville Community on Saturday Morning, July 16, 2022. Funeral Services will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Community Church on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 1:00 PM with Danny Watson and Margaret Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation for the family will be held on Monday Evening, July 18, 2022, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN. Opal was born on September 25, 1941, in Haywood County to Rubin and Mayo Benard Watson. She worked as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). She married Lamar Watson and lived in the Hillville community. She is survived by one son, Christopher Watson and one daughter, Wendy Elrod (Dale), both from the Hillville Community; one daughter-in-law, Leann Phillips Watson. She leaves behind eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge the special nurse, Jennifer Puente for her excellent care and support. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Watson; her parents, Rubin and Mayo Watson; two sons, Dennis Watson and Brian Watson, one daughter, Rhonda Holmes and son-in-law, Earl Holmes. Pallbearers for the service will be Thomas Holmes, James Holmes, Christopher A. Watson, Dallas Elrod, Noah Elrod, Donna Watson, Rip ”Farmer John” Phillips, and B.J. Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lynn Benard, Aaron Martin, Joe Sterling, Dylan Sterling, Daniel Sterling and Jacob Sterling. The family has requested memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 or the American Cancer Society, Attn: Sharolett.
