Our mother, Opal Hamner Woods Hannah born January 29, 1930, sadly passed away on November 29, 2023, at the age of 93. She was a God-fearing, loving, kind, beautiful mother and wife. All who knew her know that she’s inside those pearly gates with angels singing praise to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from noon- 2:00 p.m., with funeral services will be held at Elkins Funeral Home and will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Ricky Collum and Kevin Dillion officiating. Burial will follow at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
She was a member of Mars Hill Church of Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents; late husband, Robert Earl Woods; late husband, William Morris Hannah; and brothers, R.C., Bruce (Ruth), Mitchell (Earline), and Odis Hamner.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Franks; son, Robert “Bobby” Earl Woods, Jr.; granddaughter, Kirsten Fenton (Josh); and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Kade.
Opal retired from Sears Roebuck. After retirement, she volunteered her time as a “Pink Lady” at ECM Hospital, taught ladies aerobics, and sang with a quartet for funerals. She worked as chief inspector for Lauderdale County during voting times. She loved working in the yard and going to Diana singings, service station conventions, and traveling parts of the U.S.
Pallbearers will Josh Fenton, Jerry Story, Oddis Fielder, Steve Stanfield, Harry Eaton and Noah Eaton.
The family expresses their deepest appreciation to Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home for all the love and care they gave to our mother. We also express special thanks to Rose Mitchell for singing at the funeral for and with mom for one last time.
