Opal was born in Townley, Alabama on December 10, 1922, to Vester and Myrtle Burkett. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, she was a loving and devoted mother, wife and homemaker. Opal loved to sew and cook, she spent most of her days planting flowers and taking care of her yard. Her favorite things to do was decorating for Christmas inside and out and not forgetting the true meaning of Christmas. She was a big Alabama football fan and loved to help coach Saban Coach via television. She enjoyed family reunions and get togethers. She loved her family and friends very much, taking in and caring for family whenever they needed her, maybe a quick visit or staying for a while, family meant everything to her and her door was always open and she would always have something good cooked to eat. Opal loved old gospel singings and dinner on the ground at decoration time. She liked telling stories of her childhood and growing up with nine brothers and sisters. She will be missed by many.

Beloved family that welcomed her to Heaven is two very special husbands, Joe T. Amerson to whom she was married to for 52 years and Craig S. Burton to whom she was married to for 7 years; her father and mother, Vester and Myrtle Burkett; brothers, H.L. Burkett, Earl Burkett, Ellis Burkett and Leon Burkett; sisters, Aliene Guthrie, Mary Faye Burkett and Martha Mae Burkett; and granddaughter, Karen Amerson.

The memory of her life continues to be celebrated by her two daughters, Dolly Jackson of Birmingham, AL and Sonya Moore (Alex) of Odenville, AL; step-daughter, Linda Burton of Little Rock, AR; step-sons, Craig Burton Jr. of Northport, AL and Hal Burton of Key West, FL; grandchildren, Pat Cooper, Brian Cooper (Sherry), Mylola Roche` (Gary) and Daniel Williams; siblings, John D. Burkett (Gerelene) and O’Neal Burkett (Brownie); seven great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
