Opal Baker Woods  Opal Baker Woods (Robins), age 97 of Albertville, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024, with family by her side. She was born on April 23, 1927, to George Robins and Mary Myers Robins in Section, Alabama. She endured many hardships in her upbringing, living through The Great Depression and World War II. She loved the outdoors, and she grew bountiful vegetable gardens yearly. She would share her harvest with her family and friends. She had a very generous nature. She loved cooking and sharing a meal with her friends and family. She also was a wonderful quilt maker. She sold her quilts at craft shows locally and out of state. She became a Christian early in life and attended a local holiness church until she became homebound. She will be tremendously missed by those who love her.
She is survived by five children, Mildred (Voss) Bankston, Gearldine (Hubert) Hughes, Ann (David) Light, Donald Baker, and Kathy Reese, and brother, James Hugh Robins. She is also survived by 71 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Robins, sister, Alta Faye Headrick, brother, Lee Roy Robins, husbands J. Hugh Oliver Baker, and Earl Woods, and children, George Baker, J.B. Baker, Patricia Pearce, and two infants. Rev Charles “Chuck” Baker, Jr. will be officiating her funeral service which will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Adams Brown Funeral Home with visitation on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 5:30—8 pm. Burial will be at New Prospect Cemetery in Swearengin, Alabama. Pallbearers are her grandsons and great-grandson, George Baker, Jr., Jeff Hughes, Harold Kowalsky, James Baker, Darrick Baker, and Luke Gaskins. Honorary pallbearers are Caleb Sanders and Will Bankston.
