Funeral services for Opal A. Latham, a beloved mother and grandmother, who left us peacefully on July 16, 2024 will be 12:00 PM, Friday, July 19th at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Gibbs Chapel Cemetery in Blountsville, Alabama. Bro. Heath Riggs will be officiating services. A visitation will take place at Hanceville Funeral Home on Friday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

 

Opal was a pillar of strength, love, and kindness in our lives. She cherished her family above all, dedicating her life to nurturing and supporting her loved ones. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth, filled with laughter and cherished memories.  An avid reader, Opal found joy and solace in the pages of countless books. Her love for literature was a testament to her curious mind and enduring spirit. She often shared her favorite stories with her family, sparking imaginations and fostering a love for reading in her children and grandchildren.

 

In addition to her literary passions, Ms. Latham had a remarkable talent for arranging flowers. Her floral creations were not just beautiful but also a reflection of her creative soul and appreciation for nature’s beauty. She found happiness in crafting stunning bouquets that brightened her home and the lives of those around her.  Shopping was another of Opal’s favorite pastimes. She had a keen eye for finding the perfect gifts for her loved ones, always knowing how to bring a smile to their faces with her thoughtful choices.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Kristy Dyer (Brad); grandson, John King (Hannah); sister, Abbie Latham; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Atchley, Gail Atchley, and many other relatives and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Latham; parents, Fred D. & Zunie Atchley; siblings, Ethelene Murphee, Royce Atchley, Sue Yancey, Travis Atchley, and Eddie Atchley.

 

The family would like to send a warm and special ’Thank You’ to the staff at Hanceville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Southern Care-New Beacon Hospice for the extended love, care and compassion that was expressed throughout Ms. Latham’s transition from her earthly home.

 

Serving as pallbearers will be John King, Tony Atchley, Nicky Shelton, and Blake Stewart.
