ONLINE JOB ADS IN SEPTEMBER DOWN 7.5% FROM LAST MONTH

Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, and Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers are the Top Jobs in September.

MONTGOMERY – Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in September 2023, there were 90,962 job ads posted in Alabama.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Fast Food and Counter Workers, Sales Reps, Wholesale & Manufacturing, Exc. Technical & Scientific Products, with 15,447 ads placed for those occupations in September.

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

In September 2023, there were 37,155 total job ads with salaries, including 9,151 jobs ads with salaries of $70,000 and above; 5,703 jobs ads with salaries in the $50-69,000 range; 10,600 jobs ads with salaries in the $35-50,000 range, and 11,701 jobs ads with salaries less than $35,000.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in September were Huntsville Hospital with 1,078 and UAB Medicine with 1,050. The rest of the top 10 were: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (781), Auburn University (560), Baptist Health (523), Walmart (508), USA Health (474), PCH Hotels & Resorts (455), The University of Alabama (443), and East Alabama Medical Center (387).

This month’s HWOL Occupation Focus is Civil Engineers.

Those employed in this occupation perform engineering duties in planning, designing, and overseeing construction and maintenance of building structures and facilities, such as roads, railroads, airports, bridges, harbors, channels, dams, irrigation projects, pipelines, power plants, and water and sewage systems.

They may inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards. They may estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility. Typically, employees in these occupations usually need a Bachelor’s Degree. The advertised median salary for Civil Engineers in Alabama is $92,416. This occupation has 410 Annual Total Openings in Alabama.
