ONLINE JOB ADS IN OCTOBER DOWN 12.4% FROM LAST MONTH

Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, and Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers are the Top Jobs in October

MONTGOMERY – Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in October 2023, there were 80,400 job ads posted in Alabama.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Fast Food and Counter Workers, Sales Reps, Wholesale & Manufacturing, Exc. Technical & Scientific Products, with 14,421 ads placed for those occupations in October.

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

In October 2023, there were 30,436 total job ads with salaries, including 8,290 jobs ads with salaries of $70,000 and above; 5,040 jobs ads with salaries in the $50-69,000 range; 7,694 jobs ads with salaries in the $35-50,000 range, and 9,412 jobs ads with salaries less than $35,000.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in October were Walmart with 1,730 and Huntsville Hospital with 1,037. The rest of the top 10 were: UAB Medicine (1,029), The University of Alabama at Birmingham (744), Pizza Hut (581), Baptist Health (517), Walgreens (489), Auburn University (431), The University of Alabama (425), and Dollar General (416).

This month’s HWOL Occupation Focus is Accountants and Auditors.

Those employed in this occupation examine, analyze, and interpret accounting records to prepare financial statements, give advice, or audit and evaluate statements prepared by others and install or advise on systems of recording costs or other financial and budgetary data. They may also represent clients before taxing authorities and provide support during litigation involving financial issues. Typically, employees in these occupations usually need a Bachelor’s Degree. Accountants and Auditors also require a CPA license through the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy. The advertised median salary for Accountants and Auditors in Alabama is $72,448. This occupation has 2,025 Annual Total Openings in Alabama.
