MONTGOMERY – Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that as of January 2022, the yearly comparison of online job ads is 84,068, up 40% from January 2021. The monthly total of online job ads for January 2022 is down 13.5% with 33,778 new online ads.
The five occupations with the most online job ads continue to be for registered nurses, retail salespersons, sales representatives, supervisors of retail salespersons, and truck drivers with 14,197 ads placed for those occupations in January.
The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.
Eighteen percent of job ads have salaries of $75,000 and above; 17% have salaries in the $50-75,000 range; 22% have salaries in the $35-49,000 range; and 43% have salaries of $35,000 or under.
The top two employers posting the most online ads in January were UAB Health System with 1,503 and Huntsville Hospital with 1,488. The rest of the top 10 were: University of South Alabama (881), University of Alabama at Birmingham (648), Baptist Health (611), Regions (502), St. Vincent Health System (495), Lowe’s (432), Children’s of Alabama (425), and Auburn University (379).
Applications Software Developers are the focus of this month’s in-depth analysis by the LMI division. The median annual salary is advertised as $90,912 with 25% earning more than $106,107. In the last 12 months there were 15,949 online ads for this occupation.
Applications Software Developers design, develop and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design. These positions typically require a four-year bachelor’s degree, several years of work-related experience and on-the-job training.
