ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson reports a shooting that took place on Monday, February 19. No arrests have been made and the chief is asking anyone with information to give Athens Police a call:
“This afternoon shortly after 2:00 the police department received a call that a person had been shot at the Marathon on the corner of HWY 72 and Hines Street.
A short time later we were notified the person that been shot drove himself to the hospital.
Investigators Jonathan Caldwell and Mickey Hart spoke to the victim at the hospital. He told the investigators he was stopped in traffic on Hines Street waiting on the traffic light to change when the incident took place. He also told investigators the name of the person that shot him.
At this time I cannot commit on the reason for the shooting or any details in this case. I can say this was not a random shooting and no arrest has been made.
