SHEFFIELD-Two strikes and you’re out… At least it’s looking that way. After the early Sunday morning fatal shooting of one person, not officially identified at present, Sheffield Mayor Steve Stanley says the city will be working toward a swift revocation of the business and liquor licenses for Joker’s Restaurant and Lounge located on Hatch Boulevard in Sheffield.
According to Sheffield authorities, since the location opened last year, there have been numerous incidents that required police action. And there have been four shootings with two fatalities. The Quad-Cities Daily reviewed the police reports from incidents at Jokers and there were too many to list. Suffice to say, the stack of reports was over an inch tall.
After shooting incident in December of last year, the City and Jokers of The Shoals came to a written agreement in January that stipulated that the venue could continue to operate as long as there were no further serious incidents. If the agreement was broken by Jokers, that would reason for the City to revoke their operating license. Nothing in the agreement would prevent the venue from exercising their due-process rights.
According to the Mayor, the shooting of this past Sunday violates the agreement and he and the City Council will begin working immediately to revoke the business license.
Police have not officially released the name of the deceased, although some media outlets have floated the name of a man from Leighton.
The Police Department is asking for any information regarding the incident. Contact the Sheffield Police Department at 256.386.5630, or call Shoals Crime Stoppers at 256.386.8685.
