ATHENS-On Saturday, November 29 officers arrested a suspect who later escaped and was re-arrested on Tuesday, December 1.  Here is the statement issued by Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson:

“Last Saturday night Officer Josh Cagle and Mac McWhorter stopped a vehicle on West Washington Street. The passenger in the vehicle gave Cagle a wrong name because she knew she had warrants with our department and with the Sheriff’s Department.

Short time later the officers determined Marcia Lee Hughes was the passenger in the car. Officers also found a Carisporodol and Alprazolam tablet. Hughes told officers the pills belonged to her. The officers handcuffed Hughes and placed her in the back of the patrol unit. After officers searched the car they returned to the patrol unit and Hughes was not there.

Yesterday afternoon officers located Hughes on Bonnie Blue Way. She was arrested and charged with escape 3rd degree, obstructing justice, possession of a controlled substance and theft of property third degree. Hughes was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
