Ona Grantham Bonds (b. 3-5-1922, d. 10-23-2021) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a brief illness. The daughter of John Miller and Roberta Norton Grantham  was  born and raised in Middleton, TN,  with her 6 siblings.  After marrying her beloved husband John, she lived in Mobile, AL,  for over 70 years where they raised their 6 children and were members of Zion Baptist Church. The devoted wife and mother was known for her hot biscuits loved by her family and the kids of their close knit neighborhood.  While a member of Sage Avenue Baptist Church & Choir, she traveled  frequently.  She loved to meet new people as she toured the continental US and overseas. She  attended the 1st Baptist Church of Ashland, while living her golden years in VA and became a member of the Scotchtown DAR and D’Iberville DAR.  She enjoyed DAR activities like sending cards to the troops and veterans.
An avid fan of the Braves and Alabama, she watched them until the week of her passing. Affectionately called Granny by family and friends, she had a great sense of humor.   Her grandchildren have fond memories of her singing hymns as she rocked them and shared her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Ona was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Ethan Bonds; son John D. Bonds;  siblings Mary Penn, Joann Grantham, Miller Grantham and Bill Grantham.  She  is survived by her sisters: twin Edie Rowland and Jean (Don) Palmer of TN; her children: Sandra (John) Howard, Sheila (Fred) Shell, and Gary (Burma) Bonds of Mobile, Alabama;  Diane (Vinson) Harris. and Deborah D. Bonds of Ashland, VA;  and daughter-in-law Carole P. Bonds of Gainesville, FL;  grandchildren: Kelley  (Dale) Kostomo and Kim  Bonds,  of FL.;  Camille (Todd) Dorsa and Sydney (Eric) Tasler of TX.; Karelle (William) Howard and Grantham (Blair) Harris of VA;  John Howard III of WA; Lockley (Jenn) Shell, Jeb (Emily) Shell, Grant (Anne) Shell and Priscilla Harrison of AL.; 19  great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; sister-in-law Jean ( Fred) Van Pelt of AZ.; beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
