Oma D. Bagwell Thompson Ms. Oma D. Bagwell Thompson, age 92, of Union Grove, Alabama passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday morning, November 11, 2024. Oma was born August 2, 1932 in Marshall County, AL, to Wheeler Shirley and Bertha Stanley Shirley. Oma spent her professional career employed as a secretary at the Marshall County District 1 Maintenance Shop. She was first married to Gorman Willard Bagwell and then to Johnny W. Thompson, both of which preceded her in death. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Arab First Baptist Church.

Oma was a loving and generous lady. She took pride in taking care of those she loved. Cooking and providing family meals she considered a blessing. In her younger days she loved camping and spending time outdoors with friends and family. She thoroughly enjoyed country music and attended the Fielders Convention in Athens, AL as often as possible.

Cherishing memories of Oma include her family and friends which include her daughter, Donna Hamilton (Tommy); son, David Bagwell (Rhonda); step-sons, Marvin Thompson, Clint Thompson, Danny Bagwell and Dennis Bagwell; Grandchildren, Stephanie Hamilton Blankenship (Scott); Will Hamilton (Allison); great grandchildren, Caroline and Baker Blankenship and Riley Hamilton; God Child, Bucky Rowe; sister, Lola Hadley.

Preceding Oma in death include: husbands, Gorman Willard Bagwell and Johnny W. Thompson; parents, Wheeler and Bertha Shirley; daughter, Deborah Bagwell-Hamer; step-son, Chris Thompson; brother, Roy Shirley, and sister, Mabel Hornsby.

Services for Oma are planned for Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. The visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11:00. Brother Nicky James will be officiating. Burial will be in Mtn. View Church Cemetery. Pallbearers escorting Oma to her final resting place will be Rudy Hornsby, Ben Hornsby, Michael Shirley, Jeff Hadley, Donnie Hadley and Bucky Rowe.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Shepherd’s Cove Hospice in Albertville, AL. Arrangements have been entrusted to Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.
