FLORENCE– The summer Olympics begin in August, and First Fridays is taking its cue from this two-week spectacle for a night of family fun and games that will take place from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Florence on Friday, Aug. 5.
“We’ll have a variety of ways for kids and parents to participate in physical activities that will be both fun and a bit of a physical work out,” said Belinda Duke, the First Fridays chairwoman. “Of course, the Olympics were a natural theme to guide the August event.”
In addition to the family games and activities, music is set to begin on the Big River Broadcasting stage at 5 p.m. with Bailey White. At 6 p.m., Let’s Go will take the stage, and the music will wrap up with Willis.
“Music is a big part of making First Fridays the fun event that it is,” Duke said. “This lineup is no different. We’re constantly showcasing new talent, and it’s exciting to see the performances.”
Dozens of vendors have signed up to participate in the August event. They’ll have a variety of hand-crafted wares for sale that will include jewelry, pottery, woodworking pieces, clothing, and art.
Plans are underway for the First Fridays events throughout the remainder of the year. Anticipate the annual pumpkin drop at the October event as well as a Christmas extravaganza for December.
First Fridays, which is sponsored by Listerhill Credit Union, is a committee of Downtown Florence Unlimited and takes place the first Friday of every month during March through December. First Fridays is a rain-or-shine event.
