Olon Raymon Patterson – Obituary

Mr. Olon Raymon Patterson, 87, of Florence, passed away June 22, 2017 at Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was a member of Cross Point Church of Christ; retired from TVA after 32 years of service; a member of Local 760 Plumbers and Steamfitters for 45 years; and served as an HVAC Technician at Carrier. He coached youth baseball for 18 years; was a founding member of Underwood Dixie Youth Baseball Program; a 1949 graduate of Central High School where he remained active as a sports booster.  Mr. Patterson was a member of the Masonic Lodge #14, and a lifelong Auburn fan. He loved hunting and creek fishing with his sons and grandchildren, and he was an avid gardener. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War where he served as a sergeant of the 8th Army, 2nd Infantry Combat Division, 9th Regiment. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, local and national chapters; and was a founding member of the Tri-County Chapter and past president; a member of the Disabled Veterans Association; Veterans of Foreign War (VFW); Disabled Veterans of Foreign WAR (DAV); Combat Infantry Division Association; 2nd Division Infantry Association; and 9th Regiment Association.

 

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Frank Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park with military funeral honors.

 

Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Nelson and Eulaie Rhodes Patterson; and a brother, Ralton Aven Patterson.

 

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Jo Delano Patterson; sons, Steven Patterson (Rebecca), Vance Patterson, and Jeff Patterson (Lisa); grandchildren, Luke Patterson (Heather), Megan Spillers (Shane), Shannon and Shelby Patterson; great-grandchildren, John Paul, Brooklyn and Samuel Spillers, Ella Grace, Ashlyn Marie, Paisley Jo, and Abigail Mae Patterson; and a brother, Lenis C. Patterson.

 

Active pallbearers will include: Vernon Hipps, Daniel Patterson, Luke Patterson, Shane Spillers, John Paul Spillers, and Blair Patterson.

 

Lawrence Alexander, Gene Kearley, Clinton Killen, John Patterson, Hollis Delano, Price Frye, and Franklin Paul “Sonny” Delano will serve as honorary pallbearers.
