Ollie Mae Ruth – Obituary

Ollie Mae Ruth, 93, died Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born August 14, 1924, in Lee County to Mannie and Selma Shumpert Estes. She worked on the family farm and picked cotton along with her brothers and sisters. She attended Mooreville School and on April 12, 1940 she married George Ruth. She was a stay at home mom and cared for her two children, then went to work for Abbott Lab for 28 years, retiring in 1981. A lady of faith, she loved her Lord and Savior and has always been active in her church. She loved her church and was a very active member of Faith Assembly of God. Mae has always been a caregiver to everyone. She was there to cook, sit at the hospital or do anything anyone needed her to do. It was always everyone else before herself. She was always a big part of her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives in every way.
Services will be 1 PM Friday, December 22, 2017, at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Sheldon Polk and Bro. Jeff Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be 11 – 1 Friday. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
She is survived by her two children, George Ruth (Sherri) and Brenda Medrow (Tom); one brother, John Thomas Estes; five grandchildren, David L. Degler (Mieke), Tracie Richards, Shelly Blackburn (Dane), Daniel Ruth (Becky) and Clint Ruth (Jennifer); eight great-grandchildren, Dustin Blackburn (Kayla), Sara Blackburn (Ryan), Alexis Degler, Zaira Degler, Audrey Ruth, Lindsay Ruth, Cristie Wallace (Daniel) and Carlie Richards (Veronica); one great-great-grandson, Luke Blackburn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George Ruth; four sisters, Marie Jones, Foy Basden, Lucille Allen and Ellen Strop; three brothers, Earnest, Leonard and Manny Estes.
Pallbearers will be Dan Ruth, Dane Blackburn, Clint Ruth, Jim McCarthy, Ryan Nelson and Pete Harris.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sanctuary Hospice House.
