Ollie Faye Evans – Obituary

ollie-faye-evans-1480364365Mrs. Ollie Faye Evans, 90, of Scotts Hill, departed this life early Monday morning, November 28, 2016 at Decatur County General Hospital.

The widow of James Elston Evans, she was a homemaker and also worked for H.I.S. and for a short time for I-Apparel in Scotts Hill. She was born June 26, 1926 in Decatur County, daughter of the late Albert Curt Austin and Merely Mae Creasy Austin and lived most all of her life in Decatur County except for a few years in Memphis when she worked at Fisher Aircraft. She married James Elston Evans, and was a devoted wife to him for over sixty years until his death on December 6, 2006. She enjoyed gardening, and being around and taking care of her family, but received her greatest fulfillment from being active in her church, Red Walnut Church of Christ, loving the Lord and leading lost souls to the Lord.

Survivors include 3 sons, Austin Yonna Evans (Annease) of Scotts Hill, Dennis Evans (Brenda) of Decaturville and Nat Evans (Rita) of Almo, KY; three sisters, Julia Carr of Scotts Hill, Kathleen McVey of Scotts Hill and Mary Alice Yarbro (J.L.) of Brighton; 2 brothers, Billy Ray Austin (Linda) of Scotts Hill and Charles C. Austin of New Braunsfel, Texas; a niece and nephew that she raised, Susie Overman of Huron and Mike Austin of Bolivar; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Barnie Lambert, Colleen Wilbanks, LuDean Austin, Betty Buczynski and Irma Dean Austin; 3 brothers, Herbert, Landon and MacArthur Austin. The family requests memorial contributions in her name be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate), LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center (www.lebonheur.org/donate) or the Red Walnut Church of Christ.

She was an awesome aunt and will be missed. It is comforting to know that her faith made her whole and now she’s showing those up there just how to cook the Austin (maiden name) way.
