Olga Alejandra Otero Patron Morawe was born in New York City, New York, February 27, 1932, to Oscar Yanez Otero and Catalina Patron Otero, and went home to be with her Jesus Saturday, August 5, 2023. Olga was the oldest of three children and stepped into the role of Lady of the House at various times in the family’s life when her mother had to be away.
Olga married Herbert Richard Morawe Jr. on May 23, 1952, in Puerto Rico. She was a lively lady and was always up for an adventure, whether it was skipping school and going to Coney Island, earning her private pilot’s license, traveling the world, and hiking in exotic places like the Zugspitze in Austria and Machu Pichu in Peru.
Olga earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, two master’s degrees in 1980 and 1988 in Counseling from the University of Texas, El Paso because she was passionate about knowledge. Olga was dedicated to helping others pursue higher learning as an Education Counselor for the Department of the Army until her retirement in 1998. While employed with the Department of Defense (DOD), she earned three exceptional service awards with DOD and The National Distinguished Service award for Counseling and Development. After retirement, Olga graduated with Academic Honors receiving a “Teaching English as a Second Language” Certificate from the University of Alabama, Huntsville, and taught at Calhoun Community College for 17 years.
Following her passion for travel and experiencing different cultures, she never met a stranger and was well loved by many. An accomplished artist, Olga worked in various mediums including charcoal and china painting, her favorite, and gave many of her pieces as gifts to family and friends. Believing in giving back, Olga volunteered with various organizations including Hospice, which was particularly satisfying. While often pressed for time, Olga found time to listen to many who were going through life challenges, students who sought her planning advice, and family members seeking direction.
Olga is survived by her brother, David Otero; daughter, Katherine Ann Morawe; her sons, William Richard Morawe and Herbert Richard Morawe III; her grandchildren, Rachel Remer-Roberson, Sean Christopher Eubanks, Nathaniel Micah Eubanks, William Morawe, Jr, Catalina De La Cruz, Karlyne Morawe, Schaina Elizabeth Morawe-Dean, Joshua Paul Morawe, Benjamin Joseph Morawe, Phillip John Morawe, Bethany Marie Morawe, Jeremiah Micah Morawe, and Stephan Dane Morawe; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Victory Fellowship Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Olga’s memory to Hospice Family Care of Huntsville, at 10000 Serenity Lane, Huntsville, AL 35803.
