Olen Leroy Johnson – Obituary

OlenOlen Leroy Johnson, age 89, of Leighton, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013.

His funeral service will be Friday, 2 p.m. at Leighton Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Mayfield officiating. His body will be placed in the church to lie in state at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Leighton, Ala., and a World War II Veteran. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 33 years of service and a member of Leighton Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He also served as a training union director for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and former Board member of Glendale Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Katie Johnson; sons, Chris Johnson (Rhonda) of Decatur, Rev. Kevin Johnson of Florence; daughters, Karen Cunningham (Bill) of Tuscumbia, Panda Patton (Sam) of Tulsa, Okla.; brother, Vernon Johnson of Leighton; sister, Hazel Edwards of Tuscumbia; grandchildren, Wilson Patton, Jay Colin Patton, Daniel Johnson (Brooke), Amber Barkdoll (Jayme) and Katelyn Johnson.

Pallbearers are Frank Crosswhite, David Corsbie, Tres Coker, Daniel Johnson, Wilson Patton, Jay Patton and Joe Skipworth.

Honorary Pallbearers are deacons of Leighton Baptist Church and members of Aaron Smith’s Sunday school.

He was a devoted loving husband, a wonderful Christian Dad and Pawpaw. He loved his family, friends and his faith. We are thankful that he will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

The family would like to thank the Station 2 nurses and staff of Mitchell Hollingsworth for their loving care of our loved one.

Memorials may be made to Leighton Baptist Church.
