“Oil Painting Basics with Still Life,” at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art

TVAA logoTUSCUMBIA-Martha Carpenter to teach “Oil Painting Basics with Still Life,” at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art.

This three-day basic oil painting workshop will be taught using a still life as the subject matter. The course will emphasize canvas preparation, usage of materials, drawing, color mixture, composition, value, intensity of color and application of pigment. Each of the three sessions will begin with a demonstration done in the alla prima technique using a limited palette.

Following the demonstrations, students will create their own paintings working from a still life. Carpenter will offer individual constructive critique and instruction throughout the workshop.

The class is three sessions, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mon. Oct. 3rd, Tue. Oct. 4th and Wed. Oct 5th. Lunch, on your own, from noon to 1 p.m.

Registration deadline is Sept. 26th and spots are limited so we’re recommending anyone wanting to take the class register as soon as possible for our remaining few seats.
