Officer Involved Shooting Near UNA Campus Early Sunday Morning

FLORENCE-In the early morning of Sunday, July 9 there was a shooting near the campus of UNA.

UNA Police Chief Kevin Gillian confirms the shooting involving an officer near the UNA campus.  The incident occurred at 2:43 AM.

The officer tried to stop a vehicle at the intersection of Pine and Irvine Avenues.  The vehicle in  question had multiple traffic violations.

Authorities say the officer attempted to have her exit the vehicle the suspect attempted to hit the officer with her car.  At the time the officer fired multiple shots at the suspect.

The suspect  then fled the scene before striking a telephone pole at the intersection of Pine and College Streets. She was then taken to ECM to be treated for her injuries.

Names of the Female and the officer involved have not been released.

The officer is on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

SBI continues the investigation.
