Odis Leon Matlock, age 93, beloved husband of Virginia Wagar Matlock, and a resident of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at his residence.
Born on May 23, 1931, in Liberal, Kansas, Odis was the son of the late Benjamin Matlock and the late Rosa Morse Matlock. A proud veteran, he served three years in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. After his service, Odis pursued a career as a registered nurse, embodying his dedication to helping others.
A man of many talents, Odis was a hardworking craftsman who enjoyed square dancing and was an avid outdoorsman, finding joy in fishing. He even built the first home he shared with Virginia. Above all, Odis treasured his family and leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his wife, Virginia of seventy years, he is survived by his daughter, Kathy Stapleton, Susan (Don) Widener, Autumn (Lisa) Matlock, grandchildren, Aaron Stapleton, Adam (Christy) Stapleton, Megan (Cole) Kildow, Brianna (Danny) Lara, Nathan (Sara) Widener, great grandchildren, Glyndon Wicks, Daniel Kildow, Alex Lara, Elena Lara, Maddi Widener, Caitlin Widener, and nieces, Sue Garris and Patsy Leach.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Charlene Brooks, Carlene Hale, Helen Peters, and Dorothy Beaudrie.
