GIRL AND PUMPKINSFLORENCE, AL – The October First Fridays is set for Friday, October 2, from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Florence, and big events are planned for the remaining three events of 2015.

“The music on the Big River Broadcasting stage is a imagesbig story this month,” said First Fridays Chairman Andy Frith. “Aaron Blades is our headliner at 7 p.m., but local musician and Atlantic recording artist Dillon Hodges, whose stage name is Firekid, will have his CD release party at 6 p.m. Jarred Pierce will start the set off at 5 p.m.”

In addition to the music, the pumpkin drop is back for a third year. Jack O’Lantern Farms has grown pumpkins that will be dropped at 7 p.m. in the intersection of Court Street and Mobile Plaza. First Fridays-goers are also encouraged to participate in our annual pumpkin decorating contest. Pumpkins should be delivered to the First Fridays booth by 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded.

“We always have a big turnout for the October First Fridays because folks just seem ready to welcome fall,” Frith said. “What better way to do that than by dropping pumpkins in the middle of downtown?”

This month, we’ll welcome the University of North Alabama ceramics department. Students in this department have hand-crafted items, including bowls, platters, and pots. Proceeds from this sale will go back to the department.

Already, plans are underway for the November and December First Fridays. Both will offer live music and a fabulous marketplace to shop for unique holiday gifts.
