Obie Doil McDougle, age 86, of Spruce Pine, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2024, at his residence.
Mr. McDougle proudly served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a carpenter and a pastor throughout his life. He was a man of many talents and could build just about anything. He was an artist who loved carving, whittling, and woodworking. He loved being in his shop working or sitting on his front porch watching the hummingbirds. He was a precious man and will be missed by everyone who knew him, but we all know he is truly beginning to live now a life that he talked about and sang about, a life without pain.
He was preceded in death parents, James Obie & Dona (Pinkard) McDougle; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Namon Parrish McDougle, and Mr. & Mrs. John Willis Pinkard.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth (Pierce) McDougle; children, Ricky McDougle (Paula), Denise Wilson (Mike); grandchildren, Courtney Carter (Adam), Cody McDougle; 8 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Wayne McDougle (Joan), Dell Ree Wallace; and several nieces & nephews.
The visitation will be 6:00 -8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Spry Memorial Chapel. Officiating at the service will be Bro. Adam Carter and Bro. Richard Parker. The burial will be at Pleasant Hill (Frog Pond) Cemetery in Spruce Pine with military honors.
The pallbearers will be Cody McDougle, Jeffrey Lindsey, Kolt Lindsey, Braxton Lindsey, Wayne McDougle, Jonathan Wilson, Mike Wilson, and Henry Stanford.
