MUSCLE SHOALS & PHIL CAMPBELL-Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC) Patriots Athletic Director Taylor Franks announced today (1/29) that the college will add men and women’s golf for the 2026 spring semester.
“We are excited to continue to grow our athletic program at the College with the addition of Men and Women’s golf teams,” said NWSCC President Dr. Jeff Goodwin. “Athletics afforded me the opportunity to play a sport I loved and get a quality education. We want to provide these opportunities and help our students be successful in our community.”
NWSCC has made significant strides since reinstating athletics in the fall of 2021. With men and women’s golf teams, the College offers eight sports team: baseball, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s flag football (starting fall 2025), softball and volleyball (starting fall 2025).
“In a little over three years, the College has added over 100 scholarships for student-athletes,” said NWSCC Athletic Director Taylor Franks. “It has truly been a team effort to get to this point so quickly. We have such an amazing Patriot community of former athletes, alumni and supporters that have made these opportunities for our current and future patriots possible.”
The Patriots have not competed in men’s golf since 2010, and this will be the inaugural year for women’s golf at NWSCC. “Golf has tremendous support in our community, and we have some very competitive high school teams,” said Franks. “We look forward to having some of the best high school talent staying home to be Patriots.”
The College began the search process for a head golf coach today. Applications can be completed at https://nwscc.edu/college-departments/human-resources/ .
The Patriot golf teams will consist of seven men and seven women scholarship student-athletes and walk-on opportunities will be determined by the coach.
