MUSCLE SHOALS & PHIL CAMPBELL-Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) began the 2021 fall semester using a new software system, Blackboard Learn with the Ultra Experience, which will make the student experience more seamless and engaging whether students are taking courses online or on campus.

“We are always looking for ways that we can enhance our students’ experience inside the classroom and around campus,” stated NW-SCC Interim President, Dr. Chris Cox. “We feel the Ultra Experience of Blackboard Learn will make it even easier for our students to stay engaged with faculty and each other while learning through online classes or in a traditional format.”
The Blackboard Learn, with the Ultra Experience, offers a seamless integration with the student information system, MY NW-SCC. As students register or make changes to their schedules, those changes will automatically populate in Blackboard.
According to NW-SCC Executive Director of Distance Education, April Cookson, the new software will feel more modern and help students to better collaborate with each other. “Whether students are working on their phone, laptop, or desktop computer, it will be very easy for them to navigate their courses, message other students in their class, or communicate with their instructor,” said Cookson. “We have learned through the pandemic how important it is for our students to stay engaged with their instructors and each other. We believe this is another upgraded resource that will help them succeed.”
NW-SCC along with Chattahoochee Valley Community College and Marion Military are the three schools in the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) implementing the Ultra Experience of Blackboard Learn this fall. Additional ACCS schools are scheduled to upgrade to the Blackboard Learn Ultra Experience for the spring 2022 semester.
Fall semester classes began yesterday, August 19. Late registration will continue through Monday, August 23. Fall registration information can found at https://www.nwscc.edu/2021-summerfall-registration.
