NW-SCC to host drive-through Shoals Student of the Year Ceremony April 22

MUSCLE SHOALS-Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) will host the 2021 Shoals Student of the Year Banquet in the form of a drive-through ceremony Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. on the  Building 120 Parking lot, NW-SCC Shoals campus; 800 George Wallace Blvd., Muscle Shoals, AL 35661.

The ceremony will feature nominees from 17 high schools in Colbert and Lauderdale County. Nominees will hear brief remarks from Shoals Scholar Dollars Executive Director, Dr. Randy Pettus, Shoals Scholar Dollars Executive Board Chairman Mark Keech, NW-SCC President Dr. Glenda Colagross, University of North Alabama (UNA) President Dr. Ken Kitts, 2020 Shoals Student of the Year Koby Flippo, and Master of Ceremonies Dr. Eric Kirkman. Nominees include:

Presleigh Kate Thompson - Wilson High School
Philip Cole England - Brooks High School
Mattison Elizabeth Gargis - Colbert County High School
Madison Riley Howton - Mars Hill High School
Madeline Anslee Williams - Lexington High School
Laci Diane Olive - Rogers High School
Kyla Grace Dean - Cherokee High School
Keaton Elizabeth Parker - Lauderdale County High Schoolr
Joshua Garrett Statom - Central High School
Hannah Eliza White - Deshler High School
Emma Katherine Stutts - Sheffield High School
Emma Elizabeth Cooper - Waterloo High School
Danielle Lathrop - Covenant Christian High School
Connor Eli Reed - Muscle Shoals High School
Bobby Ray Holt - Colbert Heights High School
Aurelia Macara Bridges- Florence High School

The Shoals Student of the Year Banquet recognizes the top student in the Shoals area as voted on by a panel of judges. Also, it is an annual fundraiser for the Shoals Scholar Dollars Scholarship Foundation. The Shoals Scholar Dollars was formed in 2011 by the Florence and Greater Shoals Rotary Clubs with the purpose of providing every student in the Shoals the opportunity to continue education beyond high school at NW-SCC and then UNA. Following the remarks and recognition of the 2021 nominees, the 2021 Shoals Student of the Year will be named and awarded a two-year scholarship to NW-SCC followed by a two-year scholarship to UNA and various other prizes.
