FLORENCE – The Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) Foundation recently received a $100,000 private donation to start the West Florence Scholarship Fund for residents in public and income-based housing in West Florence, according to NW-SCC Director of Advancement, Katie Smith.
“The Northwest-Shoals Community College Foundation is thrilled to launch the West Florence Scholarship Fund, made possible by a generous $100,000 donation,” stated Smith. “We look forward to serving the residents of West Florence through this scholarship, which will provide access to life-changing educational opportunities. We will continue our work to raise money to grow the fund and help more people make their education dreams a reality.”
The NW-SCC Foundation and Florence City Council District One representative Kaytrina P. Simmons will host a community kickoff event on Saturday, November 6th, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Cypress Pointe Playground and Ballfield (1451 Carver Rd. Florence, AL 35630). Free food will be provided along with information about the College and how to apply for the West Florence Scholarship.
“The new Scholarship will open up opportunities for so many to be able to further their education after high school,” said Simmons. “It’s a contribution to a student’s success. This will position one to become marketable and more competitive in the workforce and showcase their education and skill set! It will also make a difference for generations to come in their quality of life!”
Representative Simmons added that the scholarship fund will relieve some financial stress for those seeking to get an education. “It will pave the way for so many! I’m just elated to be involved and help make a difference that it warms my heart!”
The scholarship will be open to graduating seniors as well as adult seeking to further their education. Recipient(s) of the scholarship may choose to enroll as a full-time or part-time student. The scholarship is renewable and will be first awarded for the NW-SCC 2022-2023 school year. Prospective students interested should complete the Foundation scholarship application link that will be posted on the College’s Financial Aid webpage on November 15, 2021.
