FLORENCE – The November First Fridays event, which will take place from 5-8 p.m. in downtown
Florence on November 7, will paint it purple in celebration of the University of North Alabama’s parents’
weekend.
“This partnership with UNA has become an annual tradition for the November First Fridays,” said Lexi
Sandlin, the committee chairwoman for First Fridays. “It’s an opportunity for the parents of current and
prospective students to experience our vibrant downtown as well as to get to know some of the student
organizations that will be present.”
Windows from several of the downtown businesses will also be painted in UNA colors, according to
Sandlin. On Saturday, November 8, the UNA Lions will play the last home game of the season against the
Haws of Shorter University. That game begins at 4 p.m. at Braly Stadium in Florence.
The Big River Broadcasting stage will feature Elle Claytor, who will begin her set at 5:15 p.m. She’ll be
followed by The Dawn Osborne Band at 6:30 p.m. The Primitive Talk will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. and
close out the night.
Vendors are a perennial favorite as the holidays approach, said Sandlin. In November, those who attend
First Fridays can expect dozens of vendors with a variety of hand-crafted items, including jewelry,
clothing, and picture frams.
First Fridays, which is sponsored by Listerhill Credit Union, is a committee of Downtown Florence
Unlimited and takes place the first Friday of every month during March through December.
