Northwest-Shoals Community College – Has been making plans, well before the President’s announcement, to restart the school’s Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program. This is just one example of of the College’s forward-looking plans-of-action to provide our community with the resources it needs to build a strong workforce of trained people who are ready to get started with good paying careers.

Now, in the second week of the introductory program, the NW-SCC Adult Education and Training for Business and Industry Departments is holding a class for students who wish to pursue a career that requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). During the two-week course in which students are taught the requirements, prospective employers, in need of CDL drivers, meet with them to discuss career opportunities at their respective companies. On-the-spot interviews are even taking place.

Adult Education program instructors teach all of the material assessed in the General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combinations portions of the skills test required to obtain the Commercial Learner’s Permit. The NW-SCC Adult Education Program covers the cost of the students’ Motor Vehicle Report, Drug Screening, DOT Physical, and Testing & Licensing Fees: all of which are requirements for entering into the CDL Class A or B course.
.
Once the CDL Permit course is completed, these students will be prepared to register for the full CDL Class A or B Course. This is an opportunity for anyone seeking a career that requires a CDL.

The Quad-Cities Daily visited the classroom, took a look at the innovative program, and shot some photos of the participants. For more information, please contact Andrew Robbins at 256-331-5218 or andrew.robbins@nwscc.edu.
