MUSCLE SHOALS-Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC) will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month this Thursday, October 12, with a special event, Pachanga with the Patriots. The event will take place on the Shoals campus beginning at 5 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the NWSCC Foundation and Adult Education Program. According to Adult Education program executive director Tara Branscome, the College’s Adult Education program is always looking for ways to support and educate our community and this is a great way to provide awareness of our services to the growing Hispanic community.

“We knew there was a need once we saw the tremendous growth in our English as a Second Language classes,” says Branscome. “We thought this family-friendly event would be a great opportunity to celebrate the Hispanic culture while increasing awareness of all the other free services we offer the community.”

The event will feature authentic Hispanic cuisine, music, dancing, tortilla making, piñatas, art exhibit, art contest, and more. Judging for the art contest will begin at 6 p.m.

To go along with English as a Second Language and Citizenship classes, the NWSCC Adult Education program offers free GED preparation classes, job skills training and certifications, Alabama Career Essentials training, and Nontraditional high school diploma classes.
