FLORENCE – Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) will hold the 2018-2019 commencement ceremonies Thursday, May 9, 2019, for the Phil Campbell and Shoals campuses at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum.
Ceremonies will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019, in the following order:
Nurse Pinning Ceremony (ADN) 4:00 p.m. Woodmont Baptist Church; Florence, Ala.
NW-SCC Commencement 7:00 p.m. Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum; Florence, Ala.
Macke Mauldin, President of Bank Independent, and CEO of BancIndependent, Inc., will serve as the keynote speaker. Mauldin is a native of the Shoals area. He graduated from Auburn University in 1982 and began his career at First Atlanta Bank, where he served as vice president before joining Bank Independent in 1988. He has served as President of Bank Independent since 1996 and became CEO of BancIndependent, Inc. in 2018. Mauldin is Vice Chairman of the bank’s board of directors and Chairman of the board at Interstate Billing Service, a subsidiary of Bank Independent.
Mauldin is a director and former chairman of the Shoals Economic Development Authority, where he led the effort to secure the National Alabama Boxcar commitment to north Alabama, now Navistar. He currently also serves as a director for the Southern Development Council and Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA).
In October of 2018, Bank Independent was inducted into the NW-SCC Foundation’s newly-designated Patriots Circle. The honor was in recognition of the establishment of the Edward Fennel Mauldin Endowed Scholarship, which was awarded for the first time in fall of 2018 to first-generation college students who choose to attend NW-SCC.
According to the NW-SCC Advising Center, approximately 800 students have completed requirements for graduation during the 2018 summer, 2018 fall and 2019 spring semesters. Approximately 200 students plan to participate in graduation ceremonies Thursday (5/9).
