Northwest-Shoals baseball spring season recap through February 25

MUSCLE SHOALS & PHIL CAMPBELL – Northwest-Shoals Patriots baseball opened the week on February 21 as they hosted Freed-Hardeman University Junior Varsity and came away with a 10-4 win.

Alex Wilson homered for the Patriots in the fourth inning. A three-run fifth was highlighted by Garrett Day and Taylor Bush, who each drove in runs during the inning.

Cason Henry threw two innings, yielding one run with two strikeouts. Ethan Muncher, Cade Prestegard and Jacob Little each worked in relief to preserve the win.

The Patriots traveled to Bay Minette, Ala. for a Friday, February 24th, game against Coastal Alabama – South Community College. Coastal took game one 6-5.

The Patriots had a 5-4 lead in the eighth inning before Coastal scored twice in the bottom of the inning.

Bush homered for NW-SCC in the second inning. Caleb Davis went 2-4 and Eli Gipson 2-5 to pace the Patriots’ offense.

On Saturday, the Patriots took the second game of the two-game series, 11-5.

Zach Hill went five innings for NW-SCC, giving up nine hits and five runs. Muncher threw the final two innings to preserve the win. Bush went 2-4 with a home run to pace the NW-SCC offense.

Before returning to the Shoals, the Patriots played one game against Chipola College in Bay Minette. The Patriots led 3-0 after four innings, but could not overcome a 10-run Chipola fifth inning. Chipola scored 15 runs on 13 hits, while the Patriots scored three times with only one hit, off the bat of Cole Strachan.

Bush was named ACCC Player of the Week on February 28. For the week, he had a batting average of .467, scored two runs, hit two homeruns, and drove in six runs.

Northwest-Shoals goes 2-2 for the week and are 5-11 on the season. They will host Calhoun Community College in an Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) matchup on March 9. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m.
